Our tips for relieving foot pain

Nos tips pour soulager les douleurs aux pieds

Foot pain can quickly become unbearable for the person experiencing it. This pain can be due to a violent shock, inflammation, muscle fatigue, or an joint disease. The three most common places where pain persists are on the bottom and top of the foot, but also on the outer sides. Discover the different types of foot pain and our advice to relieve your pain in the long term.

The different types of foot pain

Our feet are constantly in action, so they can be exposed to all possible pathologies and pains. However, there are different types of foot pain:

  • Bone pain (fractures), generally due to a violent fall
  • Joint pain (osteoarthritis or arthritis), due to cartilage wear. It can also cause a bunion later on
  • Tendon pain (tendinopathies), due to too much repetition of movements
  • Circulatory pain (edema and swelling), due to lack of activity
  • Ligament pain (sprains), due to overexertion of the joint
  • Skin pain (callus, wart, etc.), due to repeated rubbing of shoes, excessive foot compression, excessive foot perspiration
  • Nail pain (fungus, ingrown toenail, etc.), due to fungi, improper nail trimming, repeated trauma, etc.
  • Pain due to stress or fatigue, from continuous pressure on the same part of the foot

Limit risk factors

Aside from genetic pain, foot pain is generally caused by certain things we do/experience daily. For example, overly intense sports activities, shocks, unsuitable shoes, etc. Thus, it is possible to reduce the occurrence of this pain by limiting risk factors:

  • Avoid standing for too long
  • Avoid overworking your feet with too much effort or overly physical sports activity
  • Avoid wearing unsuitable shoes (too small a size, not adapted to your morphology, etc.)

Effectively relieve pain

Depending on the origin of your foot pain, it can be treated more or less quickly. Indeed, it is possible to:

  • Consult a podiatrist to remove calluses under the feet, for example, or to treat skin pain
  • Add memory foam insoles to relieve foot pain, especially if you have to walk a lot during the day
  • Perform pedicures to treat nail pain
  • Use adapted devices to relieve your bunion
  • Be prescribed medication to treat infections
  • Wear adapted arch supports to relieve plantar fasciitis
  • Do rehabilitation exercises after a fracture or sprain
  • Opt for surgical operation in case of extreme urgency
  • Wear breathable socks to avoid blisters
  • Perform massages with adapted creams or with a massager as soon as you feel a slight pain appear or after a tiring day
  • Prioritize shoes adapted to your feet and problems rather than aesthetic shoes
