How to prepare your skin for winter?

peau hiver

The change of season can be harsh on our bodies, especially our skin. It's hard to have glowing, radiant skin in winter. Indeed, the skin is put to the test in winter, partly because it plays an important role in our body's thermoregulation, but also and above all because it undergoes daily external aggressions that lead to phenomena of dryness, redness, extreme sensitivity, uncomfortable tightness, lack of elasticity, etc. On the other hand, the skin has a protective hydrolipidic film that is also put to the test due to temperature changes, which makes the skin more susceptible to accelerated epidermal aging but also more susceptible to dehydration.

To limit damage to our skin in winter, it's important to adapt your routine to adopt the right gestures.

Adapt your routine with more moisturizing products

The most important part of preparing your skin for winter is using the right products to maintain complete skin hydration. To do this, we recommend using very rich products such as body butters, oils, and protective cold creams. You can also incorporate this cherry blossom essential oil skincare kit into your routine. It will help you deeply hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. Furthermore, you can also use shea butter in addition to your products.

Use a vegetable oil / serum oil

Moreover, after applying your special winter moisturizer, we recommend using a vegetable oil to seal the hydration of your face. For vegetable oils, you need to find the one that best suits your skin type. Indeed, for oily skin, prefer jojoba, hazelnut, black seed, hemp, carrot oils, etc. For combination skin, prefer grapeseed, argan, apricot, evening primrose oils, etc. For sensitive skin, prefer sweet almond, calendula, touloucouna, baobab oils, etc. And finally, for dry skin, prefer avocado, wheat germ, plum, marula oils, etc. You can find all these oils on the Aroma-Zone website.

Hydrate skin from within

It's no secret that to have beautiful skin from winter to summer and through autumn, you need to drink a lot of water. Indeed, the more hydrated your body is, the more you will see the effects on your skin. It is recommended to drink an average of 2L of water per day. However, if you have trouble staying hydrated, there are always alternatives such as herbal teas or infusions to increase your pleasure when drinking.

Opt for more suitable cosmetics

During the winter, we advise you to banish powdered and matte textures in favor of more fluid and therefore more hydrating versions. You can also mix a little cold cream / BB cream with your liquid foundation to ensure perfect hydration.

Do not skip makeup removal

Throughout all seasons, it is important to always remove makeup in the evening. Sleeping with makeup on means risking breakouts appearing day after day. However, in winter, we recommend favoring oil-based makeup removers, a creamy milk, or even a lotion to preserve skin hydration. Once your face is perfectly cleansed, use a mild cleanser suited to your skin type.

Do nourishing & hydrating scrubs and masks

In winter, you shouldn't skip scrubs and masks, quite the contrary! Scrubbing is an essential part of your weekly routine because it helps remove dead skin cells to maintain a fresh complexion and also helps combat desquamation, which is the shedding of superficial layers of the epidermis. For masks, opt for masks with rich moisturizing and nourishing active ingredients to soothe your skin while strengthening the hydrolipidic film. During this season, it is recommended to use gentle scrubs and masks with fine grains, even if your skin is not generally sensitive.

Do not neglect hands and feet

Hands and feet are areas that are directly impacted by the cold. Indeed, when it's cold, the body lowers the temperature of peripheral areas to maintain body temperature everywhere, so this phenomenon is primarily felt in the feet, hands, and the tip of the nose. These areas are put to the test, so they should not be neglected. We recommend regularly using masks for your hands but also for your feet and following up with a super hydrating cream.

Do not neglect lips

Just like hands and feet, lips react instantly to temperature changes. They quickly become chapped, start to feel tight, and are often painful. To alleviate all these discomforts, we recommend applying a lip balm three to four times a day depending on your needs.

Opt for a night cream or mask

To prepare your skin for winter, it is important to continue hydration even during the night. During the night, the skin is completely rested and therefore more reactive to injected products. For this reason, we advise you to use a cream, a mask, or even a specific night treatment. Upon waking, your skin will be radiant, soft, hydrated, and with all its elasticity once again!

Never skip sunscreen

Finally, the last point that is very often neglected is sunscreen! You might ask, why should we continue to use sunscreen when it's cold and the weather is gray? The answer is simple: it has been scientifically proven that even in winter, the sensation of cold or even snow can reflect up to 88% of the sun's UV rays. Therefore, we recommend a sunscreen with a light SPF index of 15 or 20, and then you can switch to a stronger index (30 to 50) when the sun returns!
